The Non-Human Identity Management Group launched a Poll on LinkedIn asking an important question:
Are Agentic AI identities simply another form of Non-Human Identity, or do they represent a completely new breed of identity?

Poll Results:
Yes – Non-Human Identity – 57%
No – New Breed of Identity – 43%
Very interesting results showing that just over half of respondents (57%) still view Agentic AI systems as a form of Non-Human Identity, essentially an evolution of what already exists today. This view aligns with the definition of NHIs: digital entities acting on behalf of humans, systems, or processes.
However, a strong 43% believe Agentic AI represents a new breed of identity. This group sees these AI agents as something fundamentally different from the identities we know today.
The near balance in votes highlights a growing divide in how the industry perceives identity in the age of AI. As Agentic AI systems become more self-directed and context-aware, it raises a deeper question – at what point does a machine stop being a tool and start being an identity of its own?
