Nightfall is a data security company that stops sensitive data leaking through SaaS apps, endpoints, email, GenAI tools and AI agents. It is built for security teams that need data loss prevention to keep up with employees pasting data into chatbots and agents calling tools through MCP servers.
The problem it targets is that sensitive data now moves through far more channels than traditional DLP was designed to watch, and much of it is moved by software rather than by people.

What Nightfall Does
Rule-based DLP struggles with the volume and variety of data now moving through collaboration apps and AI tools. Nightfall uses AI-based detection instead of hand-written rules, finds leaks as they happen and remediates them automatically, enforcing policy “inline, at the point of action”. It covers data in motion, data at rest, AI usage and the investigation that follows an alert, giving one place to control where sensitive data goes, whether an employee in a chat app or an AI agent calling a tool is moving it.
Products
AI Security
Employees use personal ChatGPT accounts, unmanaged copilots and browser AI tools, while developers connect agents to company systems through MCP. AI Security gives security teams control over both. It sits in front of agent tool calls through the MCP Gateway, inspects Claude sessions through Inference Hooks, intercepts prompt injection hidden in prompts, files and tool responses, and redirects staff away from shadow AI towards approved tools.
Data Exfiltration Prevention (DEX)
DEX is for organisations worried about data walking out on laptops. It traces sensitive data from origin to destination and blocks it from leaving through managed and unmanaged devices, so an investigator can see the full lineage of a file before it was uploaded or copied.
Data Detection And Response (DDR)
DDR stops sensitive data being shared or exposed across SaaS and GenAI apps in real time. Detection covers NHI data such as secrets and keys as well as PHI, PCI and PII, and end users can be prompted to fix their own exposures.
Data Discovery And Classification (DDC)
Where DDR deals with live activity, DDC looks at what is already stored. It finds sensitive data at rest across SaaS and GenAI apps and remediates over-broad sharing.
Nyx And Insider Risk Agent
Nyx is an AI analyst that investigates violations, triages alerts, recommends policy tuning and adds business context, and it can intervene before data is exposed. The Insider Risk Agent enriches alerts with who acted, their role and where the data came from.
How It Works
Nightfall runs as a cloud service. Data is hosted with cloud providers, databases sit in the United States, and everything is encrypted at rest and in transit.
| Component | What it does |
|---|---|
| Agentless SaaS coverage | Many SaaS and AI use cases need no endpoint agent; Nightfall connects to the apps through their APIs, and its own APIs can extend coverage to other SaaS apps, GenAI apps or data pipelines. |
| Endpoint agent | A macOS and Windows agent, rolled out via MDM, handles exfiltration on managed devices. |
| Browser coverage | Browser enforcement keeps corporate data out of unmanaged AI tools. |
| MCP Gateway | “MCP Gateway sits in front of every tool call.” It is configured with a single line in the MCP configuration and authenticated via SSO. |
| Inference Hooks | API-based inspection of prompts and tool traffic, with no endpoint agent required. |
Identities And Systems Covered
| Human users and devices | User and device attribution across managed and unmanaged macOS and Windows devices |
|---|---|
| AI agents | Which agents each person uses, which systems they reach, and their MCP tool calls |
| Non-human identity data | Secrets and other NHI data alongside PHI, PCI and PII |
| SaaS systems | Slack, Google Drive, Gmail, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Salesforce, Jira, Confluence, Notion, Zendesk |
| AI tools | Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Grok, Perplexity, DeepSeek, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and browser AI tools |
Agentic AI Capabilities
Registry And Tool-Call Control
Admins approve MCP servers from a curated registry and everything else is blocked by default. Destructive actions such as deletes, writes and database drops are disarmed before they execute, and sensitive data in a tool’s response is sanitised before the agent sees it.
Claude And IDE Coverage
One Inference Hooks integration covers Claude on web, desktop and mobile, Claude Cowork, Claude Code and Claude in Slack. Separate IDE hooks cover Cursor, Claude Code and VS Code.
