Shift5 secures and makes sense of the operational technology inside military and transportation platforms. Its hardware sits on the serial bus networks of aircraft, ground vehicles, ships and trains, and its software turns that data into threat alerts, maintenance insight and compliance evidence for the commanders, crews and operators responsible for the fleet.
It serves defence customers and commercial aviation, where onboard systems are increasingly connected but their internal traffic is rarely watched.

What Shift5 Does
Weapon systems, military vehicles and commercial aircraft move data over serial bus networks rather than ordinary IT networks, and that traffic is rarely monitored. Shift5 collects and translates this operational data so it can be used for performance and cyber resilience. Its mission is to protect the servicemembers who defend the United States and to secure the critical systems that keep the economy moving.
One capture feeds several jobs: spotting cyber threats and faults in near real time, predicting maintenance needs even on systems without dedicated sensors, checking aircraft security logs against aviation rules, and forensic analysis after a mission. The analysis runs at the edge, on the platform itself, so commanders and maintainers get usable information without waiting for data to be shipped elsewhere.
Products
Op/Intelligence Platform
Op/Intelligence is the software that processes everything the hardware captures. It receives new detections and capabilities through continual updates, so fielded systems keep pace with new threats without new hardware.
Cyber/EW
Cyber/EW analyses serial bus traffic and RF data to flag cyber and electronic warfare threats in near real time, giving operators warning while a platform is in use.
Predictive Maintenance
Predictive Maintenance turns the same bus data into maintenance insights, helping maintainers act on emerging faults before they ground a vehicle or aircraft.
Fleet Compliance
Fleet Compliance is built for commercial aviation. It processes aircraft security log files to find incidents and to check compliance with aviation regulations.
RF-Enabled GPS Threat Detection
This product gives early warning of GPS interference, at ranges of up to a reported 200 nautical miles, and installs as a plug-and-play unit.
Hardware
| Manifold 4 | A small, light data collection device for air, ground and maritime platforms, taking in up to four serial bus protocols with at-rest encryption |
|---|---|
| Manifold 10 | The commercial aviation model, handling up to 110 channels including ARINC 429, ARINC 717, ARINC 664 and gigabit ethernet |
| Bus Interface Card | Adds up to 12 more capture channels, including CAN, MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC 429 |
How It Works
Shift5 hardware plugs directly into a platform’s serial bus networks and records mission data during live operations.
| Component | What it does |
|---|---|
| Passive capture | Capture is one-way, so the device cannot interfere with the platform’s operations, and the hardware is ruggedised for harsh environments. |
| Anomaly detection | Alerts go to operators and ground crews in near real time when cyber threats or maintenance risks appear. |
| Post-mission access | Stored data supports forensic analysis and maintenance work once a mission ends. |
| Fleet dashboard | A single dashboard shows commanders the status of their whole fleet. |
| Command and control | Vehicle health data feeds Anduril Lattice within the Army’s Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) programme. |
| Data protection | Data-At-Rest Protection (DARP) software runs on the hardware and holds the CSfC listing. |
