Understanding Signicat

Signicat is a European digital identity and trust services company that helps banks, insurers, public bodies and other regulated organisations verify who their customers are, log them in securely and collect legally binding signatures. It offers “one point of integration for all your digital identity needs across borders”.

Its customers face the same problem in every market: each country has its own eID schemes and rules, and building to each one separately is slow and costly.

What Signicat Does

Signicat gives customers one integration to a large catalogue of identity methods, more than 240 of them, including national eIDs, EU Digital Identity Wallets, ID document scanning, biometric verification and AML and KYC data sources. That single connection replaces separate builds to each national scheme, document check and data provider. Its products follow the customer journey from onboarding through login and signing, reusing the same identity methods at each step, and for organisations working in many markets, Global Professional Services helps with multi-country compliance.

Products

Identity Proofing

Identity Proofing is for organisations that must check a new customer’s identity and background before opening an account, as banks and payment firms do under KYC and AML rules. It combines identity checks with compliance context:

  • eID and Wallet Hub
  • ID Document and Biometric Verification
  • ReuseID and Data Verification for person and organisation data
  • Ongoing Monitoring

Authentication

Once a customer is onboarded, Authentication lets them log in securely. Users and organisations can sign in with national eIDs and identity wallets through the same eID and Wallet Hub used at onboarding, with MobileID or ReuseID, or with passkeys that give passwordless biometric login directly in the browser.

Electronic Signing

Electronic Signing covers agreements that need a legally valid signature and a trail of evidence. It includes the Electronic Signature API, the Dokobit Portal for collecting signatures, and Signicat Archive for storing signed documents.

Trust Orchestration

Trust Orchestration automates the workflow across onboarding, risk checks, authentication and signing, so compliance teams do not have to hand-build each journey. Signicat Mint is a “no-code builder for compliant end-user journeys”, RiskFlow Orchestration runs the risk checks, and Digital Evidence Management keeps the evidence behind each completed journey.

ReadID

ReadID verifies identity documents by reading their NFC chip with a mobile phone, which gives stronger assurance than a photo of the document. It came from Inverid, the Dutch company Signicat acquired in 2025, and has a reported 50+ organisations as users, including Rabobank and the Frontex border agency.

How It Works

Signicat delivers its services from the cloud, and customers connect through OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML 2.0 or a REST API.

ComponentWhat it does
Developer APIsThe Assure API handles ID document and biometric verification, the Authentication REST API drives the eID Hub and login flows, the Data Verification API checks people and organisations, Sign API v2 handles electronic signatures and the Mint API runs workflow orchestration.
HostingServices run on Google Cloud, in physically separate data centres with redundancy across several availability zones.
Data protectionSignicat acts as a data processor for customers’ end-user personal data, offers a GDPR-compliant data processing agreement and encrypts all personal data in transport.
Trust servicesAs a qualified trust service provider, Signicat issues qualified time-stamps and certificates for electronic signatures and validates qualified signatures and seals.
