Understanding Synack

Synack is an offensive security testing company. It delivers penetration testing as a service (PTaaS), combining an autonomous AI pentesting agent with a vetted community of human security researchers, for enterprises and government agencies that want testing to run continuously instead of once a year.

The problem it addresses is that annual pentests leave long gaps, and scanners produce more noise than a security team can triage. Testing covers web applications, hosts, APIs, mobile applications, cloud environments and AI and LLM applications.

What Synack Does

Synack pairs AI and human testers in one managed workflow, for commercial and government customers alike. An autonomous agent gives breadth and speed, a vetted community of researchers gives depth, and Synack experts confirm exploitability before any finding reaches the customer, so security teams receive real issues rather than scanner noise. The surrounding platform tracks those issues through remediation, from discovery of the attack surface through to reports for executives and boards, so offensive testing becomes an ongoing process rather than a point-in-time exercise.

Sara AI Pentesting

Sara, the Synack Autonomous Red Agent, is a fully autonomous AI pentester that identifies, validates and prioritises vulnerabilities across the enterprise attack surface. It suits teams that need a pentest started quickly, with each test covering up to 25 web apps or 100 hosts and tailored to the features, risks and goals the customer specifies.

  • Sara Continuous AI Pentesting runs recurring AI-led tests across an agreed scope
  • One-click patch verification confirms that a fix holds

Synack Red Team And Human-Led Pentests

For depth that automation cannot reach, the Synack Red Team (SRT) provides human testers. Engagements come in fixed lengths, from Synack14 (two weeks) and Synack90 (90 days) to Synack365 (year-round), alongside On-Demand Security Testing. Gray box testing is available for AI and LLM, API, application, mobile, cloud, infrastructure and compliance targets.

Attack Surface Management

Organisations often do not know every internet-facing asset they own. Attack Surface Discovery and Attack Surface Analytics find those assets continuously and rank them for testing.

Managed Vulnerability Disclosure

When outside researchers report a flaw, Synack handles intake, initial assessment, exploitability review and triage, and passes on only validated findings.

How It Works

Synack delivers its testing through a SaaS platform. Customers scope and launch supported pentests themselves, and Sara tests can be scheduled without scoping calls.

ComponentWhat it does
Testing controlsThe platform monitors testing traffic, enforces scope boundaries, identifies authorised testing activity and can halt testing when needed.
Vulnerability operationsSynack teams review submissions, remove duplicates and confirm that findings meet its validation standards.
ReportingReports track coverage, findings, remediation progress and risk reduction over time. Sara final reports are generated by AI and validated by people.
