Understanding Veeam

Veeam is a data resilience and AI security company that helps organisations back up, recover and govern their data across on-premises, cloud, SaaS and Kubernetes environments. IT and security teams use it to get back to clean data after ransomware, outages or accidental changes, and increasingly to control what AI systems can reach.

The problem it addresses is trust in data: a business needs to know that the data it restores is clean, and that the people and AI systems reading it are allowed to. Veeam brings both concerns together in the Veeam DataAI Command Platform.

What Veeam Does

Veeam’s work rests on two ideas: data has to be recoverable, and it has to be trustworthy enough to feed AI. Backup alone no longer settles the first, because attackers target the backups too, and a restore is only useful if what comes back is clean. The second is newer: as copilots and agents gain access to company data, someone has to see which identities and models can reach what. Veeam’s approach is to govern production data and backup copies from one place, so recovery and access control draw on the same picture of the data.

Products

Veeam Data Platform

Veeam Data Platform is on-premises software for teams that must recover quickly from ransomware, accidental changes or outages. It backs up hypervisors, cloud and on-premises workloads, with immutable-by-design storage and automated malware scanning, so a restore brings back clean data, and data can move between environments without lock-in.

Veeam Data Cloud

Organisations that rely on SaaS applications use Veeam Data Cloud to back up and restore Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Salesforce, delivered as a service rather than installed software.

Veeam Kasten And Veeam Vault

Platform teams running containers protect their Kubernetes workloads with Veeam Kasten. Veeam Vault is managed cloud storage that serves as an offsite backup target and supports cloud disaster recovery.

Securiti By Veeam

Securiti gives security, privacy and compliance teams DSPM, sensitive data discovery, data lineage and AI governance. It discovers and classifies sensitive data, flags public sharing and excessive access, maps data to regulatory requirements and produces audit-ready reports. A Consent Agent supports privacy operations.

Coveware By Veeam

When an attack turns into extortion, Coveware provides a cyber extortion incident response service, so the people handling the attack work alongside the teams restoring data with the rest of the platform.

How It Works

Veeam ships its products in two main forms. Veeam Data Platform is installed in the customer’s own environment, while Veeam Data Cloud runs as SaaS for cloud applications. Veeam Kasten runs natively in Kubernetes, and Veeam Vault provides the cloud storage layer behind offsite copies. On the governance side, the Data Command Graph maps relationships among data, identities, AI models and agents across both production and backup systems, which is what lets Agent Commander tie an AI action back to the data it touched.

Identities And Systems Covered

Identity systemsEntra ID backup and recovery, to reduce identity and access risk, enforce least privilege and restore access when changes go wrong.
AI agents and modelsAn inventory of AI agents, copilots and models, with control over how they access data.
Identity to data mappingDSPM shows which AI systems can reach which data, and under whose identity.
CloudAWS, Azure and Google Cloud.
SaaSMicrosoft 365 and Salesforce.
Containers and on-premisesKubernetes, hypervisors and on-premises environments.

Agentic AI Capabilities

Agent Commander, built jointly by Veeam and Securiti, connects data resilience with AI governance in three stages:

DetectFinds shadow AI use, sensitive data exposure and risky agent behaviour.
ProtectApplies controls across data, identities and agents, with runtime guardrails that inspect prompts, retrievals and responses for data leakage and prompt injection.
UndoReverses AI-driven changes and restores the affected data to a trusted point without rolling back whole environments.

Agent Commander is in private preview, delivered through the Securiti Data Command Center.
