Venice.ai is a private AI platform that gives people and developers access to open-source and third-party models for text, images, video and audio, built around privacy and freedom from content restrictions. Individuals use its web app for chat, image generation and characters, while developers and AI agents use the Venice API.
The problem Venice addresses is that most AI services store and can read what users send them. Venice keeps prompts and responses out of its own storage, offers modes where even Venice cannot see the computation, and routes requests so that no single provider sees a user’s full history.

What Venice.ai Does
Venice treats privacy as an architecture decision rather than a policy promise. Conversation history is held on the user’s device rather than on Venice’s servers, and the user chooses how much of the processing chain they are willing to trust, from third-party models with identifying metadata stripped to hardware enclaves that Venice itself cannot see into. The same model catalogue sits behind both the consumer app and the developer API, so a person and an agent get the same choice of models and the same privacy options.
Products
Venice Web App
The web app is for people who want to use many AI models privately in one place. Chat lets users pick a model, set a system prompt and share a conversation through a secure link. Image generation supports negative prompts, aspect ratios, steps, adherence, high-resolution output and seeds. Characters can be generated automatically, given detailed backstories and duplicated and evolved. Users can also upload documents and adjust temperature and top P.
Venice API
The Venice API is for developers who want private, unrestricted access to leading models across text, image, video and audio. It is OpenAI-compatible, with bearer token authentication, so existing OpenAI SDK code can point at it. Endpoints cover chat, image, a video queue, speech, music, embeddings and web search. Chat Completions supports function calling, streaming and structured outputs, and web search can be switched on per request with citations. Venice also publishes a CLI and Venice Skills for developers.
How It Works
Every request passes through Venice over HTTPS/TLS and is relayed without Venice storing the prompt or response; requests are processed in memory and discarded. Four privacy tiers then decide how processing happens.
| Component | What it does |
|---|---|
| Anonymized | Third-party models, with identifying metadata removed first. |
| Private | Self-hosted open-source models with zero data retention. |
| TEE | Hardware-secured enclaves, so Venice itself cannot access the computation, and users can verify the code that handles their request. |
| End-to-End Encrypted | The client encrypts the prompt before it leaves the device, Venice relays only ciphertext, and only the verified TEE can decrypt it. |
| Inference routing | Requests go through a proxy to decentralised compute providers, each of which sees a single conversation rather than a user’s history or identity. |
Agentic AI Capabilities
| MCP server | The Venice MCP server exposes chat, image, video, audio and embeddings to any MCP host. |
|---|---|
| Agent payments | With x402, an agent pays per request from any Base wallet in USDC, with no account or API key, so it can use the API without a human-held credential. |
| Framework support | Function calling, web search and multimodal generation let common agent frameworks use Venice as their model provider. |
