Understanding Zimperium

Zimperium is a mobile security company. It protects the mobile apps that enterprises build and the phones, tablets and Chromebooks their staff use, covering both company-owned and personal (BYOD) devices.

It is built for enterprise security, app development and fraud teams who need protection built for mobile apps and devices.

What Zimperium Does

Mobile devices and apps form an attack surface that desktop security tools were not built for. Zimperium focuses only on that surface and on enterprise customers. It treats the problem from two sides: the apps a company publishes, which attackers can reverse engineer, tamper with or run on compromised devices, and the devices employees carry, which face phishing, malicious apps and network attacks.

For apps, the goal is protection before, during and after release, through the Mobile Application Protection Suite (MAPS). For devices, Mobile Threat Defense (MTD) detects attacks on Android, iOS and ChromeOS while keeping a privacy-first design on the user’s phone.

Products

ZScan

App developers need to find security flaws before an app ships. zScan is an automated Mobile Application Security Testing (MAST) tool for Android and iOS that runs SAST, DAST and IAST against app binaries and returns results in about 15 to 30 minutes. An AI Insights panel adds context-aware guidance, code snippets and configuration fixes, and supply chain checks look for weaknesses in SBOMs and third-party code. Findings map to OWASP MASVS, PCI, HIPAA, GDPR and NIAP requirements.

ZShield And ZKeyBox

Once an app is published, anyone who downloads it can try to reverse engineer it, tamper with it or pull out the encryption keys it carries. zShield is the application shielding component of MAPS, hardening the app’s code against tampering and reverse engineering. zKeyBox uses white-box cryptography to keep embedded keys hidden inside the app.

ZDefend

zDefend is an SDK that lets an app detect and respond to threats on the device itself, even offline. It provides real-time device attestation and zero-day protection, and defends against platform, network, fraud, malware and mobile-bot threats. Threat responses can be changed over the air without shipping a new app version.

Mobile Threat Defense

MTD protects employees’ devices with an On-Device Dynamic Detection Engine that uses behavioural and AI detection to catch current mobile threats, including zero-day malware. Advanced AI Smishing Analysis checks text messages from unknown senders. Related offerings cover Mobile Phishing Protection, Mobile App Vetting, Mobile BYOD Security, MTD for Chromebooks and zSecure Resident Safety.

How It Works

Protection is split between code embedded in the customer’s own apps and an application on each user’s device.

ComponentWhat it does
MAPSTesting plugs into development pipelines through APIs and plugins, and shielding and runtime protection travel inside the released app.
zDefend SDKWorks with native and hybrid apps. The customer uploads the app, reviews the threats it could face, chooses a response for each (block, alert or log) and downloads the protected build.
MTD appRuns on the device with the on-device detection engine and can be deployed and activated with little or no action from employees.
AI agentsThe agents analyse device, app, network and web telemetry already collected by MTD and MAPS, and the Mobile SOC Agent can be switched on without integration work.

Agentic AI Capabilities

Mobile SOC Agent

The Mobile SOC Agent is a paid add-on to MTD that investigates incoming alerts automatically and filters out false positives and noise. It discovers incidents, correlates events and writes an attack narrative with remediation guidance, summarised in plain language for technical and business readers. It draws on intelligence from a reported 500 million devices and 1,000+ apps.

Mobile App Response Agent

This premium add-on to MAPS serves fraud and app security teams. It correlates fraud signals from protected apps and maps its remediation guidance to MITRE ATT&CK tactics.
